Dodging war – Football Cup 1986

Driblando a Guerra (2014) Nome em inglês  “Shooting For Socrates”  Gênero: Filme/Drama

November 1985 was one of the most intense periods of violence in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Amid tension between Protestants, unionists, and the Catholic minority, nationalists, a group of soccer players tries to circumvent conflicts and violence in order to prepare for the biggest game of their lives, against Brazil at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

The violence in Ireland is depicted in the sound of bombs exploding between the dialogues of the characters. Everyone is uncomfortable with religious violence. But we soon realized the joy when the call from Ireland comes out.

The scene of the draw of the key teams that will play in Mexico in the first round, makes clear the admiration they have for the Brazilian national team.  Socrates is addressed by them, besides being considered beautiful. The children buy figurines with Socrates' face. Socrates' name is related as a revolutionary who overthrew the cowardly military dictatorship that turned 21 that year in 1985.

The actor who plays Socrates is more handsome than real Socrates, but that doesn't matter. The film tells us of the drama of the Irish people, much like the Palestinian and Kurdish people. And the attempt of the team formed by Protestants and Catholics to unite, if they understand, and so the country can compete and even win the cup. Everyone has hopes, but disbelief is evident in all the characters. In an effort of those who want to win, the Ireland team draws with Algeria, then loses to Spain and ultimately lose to Brazil 3-0.

So in this scene we Brazilians see ourselves in them Irish 28 years later in the midst of a political crisis in which brazil divides pro - PT and against PT. In favor of Dilma and against Dilma, and amid revealed corruptions that scare everyone.  Involving the PT at first all other parties, Brazil that hosts the 2014 World Cup loses 7-0 to Germany.

The Irish cried when they lost to Brazil. It's heartbreaking to see the scene. The same as we cried for losing to Germany at home.

The Irish, over time came together and the violence in their country decreases. In Brazil we are still settling the accounts with the biggest corruption scandal of all time. We found that all parties were involved in corruption. We already knew, right. But the evidence brought the clear that even the opposition candidate of Dilma. Aécio Neves is as involved in corruption as his party and the president who succeeded Dilma. Michel Temer. And now President Jair Bolsonaro who is involved together with his children with criminal power, where accusations and investigations of prosecutors accuse them and investigate all the corruption they practiced.

At the end of the film the sign says that Ireland never participated in a cup.

But she's trying to...

The same as us Brazilians, that we never get rid of the corrupt, but we're trying to.

The apple in the dark!

The apple in the dark!

In this holiday of hot and rainy days and in the middle of the trampling of the preparation of a trip, I had the opportunity to enter a Sebum in downtown São Paulo to relax after shopping for the trip. A tallow or a bookstore always calms me sometimes others cause – me reflections and searches for ideas and creations, maybe that's why I do not dispense even a newsstand.

But the fact is that in search of so many books I ended up finding a novel by Clarice Lispector, of which I am a fan. The apple in the dark, one of the few novels of this fundamental writer that I had not yet read.

I read it in two days, in my family's house in the countryside and I confess that even among them loneliness hit me hard, as well as the fear of existing and at the same time caused me a deep reflection of what we are.  “... there was no way not to accept what was happening, for for all that might happen a man had been born...”. Simply with this reflection of the character I was seeing myself and knowing more of me. – Every line of the novel provokes you to reflect.
Thus the novel is permeated and passed on by reflective phrases as the characters and events unfold. Nothing seems obvious, but at the same time it is.

Clarice Lispector wrote this novel me 1956, but forget the date of the last century. The novel The Apple in the Dark is written for the present day of tomorrow, yesterday and the future because it deals with a man and his drama, comedy and despair. That is, to exist.

It's not an easy read, for those who have never read anything but Best Sellers, maybe you can get lost. For those who have some time of good literature, you will surely know that you have not read much good in life.

But do what? Clarice is like that, Provocative, Revolutionary, disturbing and poetic....
